Esther was previously an elite contemporary dancer, and went on to complete an MSc in Sport and Exercise Physiology. Esther has been heavily involved in the adminstration of the Fitrwoman app, but also many of their recent research projects.

I spoke with Esther about the nitty gritty science behind the link between period cycles and ACL injuries.

Head of Performance at Yeovil United Ladies FC

Ewan is the head of performance for Yeovil United Ladies, and has been tracking the cycles of his players for almost 2 years. Ewan's passion for sports science was actually inspired by his own recovery journey from an ACL injury he suffered in his younger years, and he has been working in women's football for over ten years.

The performance coach works closely with his players to spot trends and patterns on their well being and fitness throughout their menstrual cycles. Ewan has sported an impressive injury rate since working with the club.

I had the pleasure of talking to Ewan about exactly what he does at Yeovil, and also whether he thinks the research behind it is something that can filter down into all levels of women's football.

Ashlee Hinks

Crystal Palace Women's FC Striker

Hinks has played at the top flight of the women's game since she was a teenager. The former Chelsea FC forward featured in the first ever Women's Super League game.

She now plays for Crystal Palace, who compete in the FA Women's Championship, just below the WSL.

Hinks suffered a full ACL tear in September 2019, and underwent surgery in February 2020. She endured a long stint of rehab and returned in late December 2020.

I had the chance to ask her about her injury experience, the support she received from Palace, and whether they track menstrual cycles at the club.
